2011 Grand Prix Award Winners to be Honored at Jan. 16, 2012, Meeting

Gulf Winds triathletes 2011 Grand Prix season began in April with the Red Hills sprint triathlon in Tallahassee and concluded in November with Ironman Florida in Panama City. Almost half of the over 200 members competed in at least one of the 12 Grand Prix events.  The 2011 Grand Prix season featured nine sprints, four Olympics, two half-Ironmans and one Ironman. The top five GW male and female finishers by time in each event received bonus points and qualified for the year-end Open Award competition. Open Award recipients were removed from their Age Groups. In order to qualify for an award, competitors had to compete in at least three Grand Prix events.

Following the close of the 2011 Gulf Winds Grand Prix season the 50-54 men’s Age Group dominated the Open competition as three person’s in this age group led by Jeff Bowman took the top three spots. Bowman earned 216 points entering 10 events and winning three. Behind Bowman was Alan Cox with 160 points and Steve Steverson, 95 points. Mike Peymann in the 45-49 Age Group took fourth place with 84 points, and Matt Scaringe 35-39 AG was fifth with 75 points just nipping another 50-54 age grouper, Lee Scarboro, who ended in sixth place with 74 points.

In the women’s Open division, it was all Jennifer Kilinski. The 30-34 age grouper entered seven events in all triathlon distances and won six firsts and one second for 200 points. Second place went to Marci Gray from the 35-39 Age Group who was in six races and garnered two firsts, two seconds and two thirds earning her 134 points. There was quite a race for the next three spots as 35-39 age-group competitor, Angela Stephens, took third with 93 points. Another 35-39 Age Group participant, Jamie Harris, was fourth with 90 points, and Annette Wilson in the 25-29 Age Group took fifth with 88 points.

In the male age group adult competition, the Under 15-year-old winner was Alex Bowman winning three firsts in three events entered. In the Under 19 division, Colby Allen won three of four events and took the top honors. In the 25-29 Age Group, Kevin Berry had a great year taking six first places in eight events and gaining 203 points. Second place went to Chris Warfel with 77 points. In the 30-34 competition Nathan Rhodes took first. Jason Hand was tops in the 35-39 Age Group  as Scaringe vacated his first place and finished fifth in the Open division. In the 40-44 Age Group Matt Rowen was on top with 80 points with second place going to Eric Baumer with 60 points. With Peymann finishing fourth in the open competition, first place in the 45-49 Age Group went to TJ DeVlieger, who won five times in seven events and scored 159 points. Lamont Cook was a close second scoring 145 points, and Mike Boll 89 points slipped by Casey Klein, 88 points, for third. Scarboro was the 50-54 winner with 151 points as Bowman, Cox, and Steverson won their honors in the open competition. Following Scarboro was Rob McNeely with 56 points and Daniel Cutchen, 50 points, was third. Tim Warfel, 87 points, Peter Kerwin, 72 points, and Chuck Rolling, 50 points, were the three top finishers in the 55-59 Age Group. In the 60-64 Age Group, Terry Presnell was first with 75 points, edging Phil Munoz who had 72 points. Tom Perkins was third with 52 points. Rick Ashton, 65 points, was tops in the 65-69 competitors. Scott McWey, 95 points, Bill Dillon, 65 points, and Keith Rowe, 52 points, were the finalists in the Over-40 Clydesdale division.

On the women’s side, with Wilson finishing fifth in the open competition, Jillian Haddaeus was tops in the 25-29 Age Group. Brook Pace took over first place in the 30-34 Age Group with 120 points with Kilinski in first place in the Open competition, and Mary Thomas came in second with 114 points. Third place went to Alison Flynt. Tanya DeVlieger moved up to first place in the 35-39 Age Group when Gray, Stephens, and Harris were taking their honors in the Open class. Melanie Rhodes was second in this age group. In the 40-44 group, Rebecca O’Hara, with 100 points, was first with Lenore McWey, 85 points, second and Sherrie Peavy, 45 points, third. Lynne Roberts was first in the 45-49 Age Group with 105 points with Loranne Ausley second with 89 points and Karen Allen, 71 points, third. In the 50-54 group Karen Munoz was the winner with Jacque Myers, 182 points, holding off Bonnie Wright in the 55-59 competition, and Kelli Dillon was first in the Athena division.

In the youth competition, Boys U-6 winner was Elliott Dillon. In U-8 Boys it was Wyatt Townsend over Barrett Waller and Cody Elliott. Riley Greenstein was first in the Boys U-10, and Alex Bowman took first in the Boys U-12 with Eric McNees second and Josh Liles third. Hunter Scott was first in the U-15 Boys.

All Grand Prix winners will be honored at the January 16, 2012, regular Club meeting at Momo’s.
