According to USA Triathlon (USAT), "thousands of kids around the world participate in triathlon each year. Youth participation represents one the fastest growing areas of the sport today". Gufl Winds Triathletes support the youth in our community and encourage their involvement in multi-sport events.

Red Hills Kids Triathlon - Sunday, May 23, 2010
The Red Hills Kids Triathlon is a race for kids age 15 and under. The event is comprised of a 125 yard swim, a 3-mile bike, and a 1-mile run, all within Maclay Gardens State Park. The swim takes place in beautiful Lake Hall and runs parallel to the shoreline. Like many triathlons, the swim starts in waves to limit the number of kids swimming at one time. Lifeguards are stationed in the water and follow children along as necessary. The bike takes place on secure roads inside the park. The 2-loop run course meanders through the picnic area near the beach.
The kid’s triathlon began in 2002, under the direction of Felton and Bonnie Wright. The Wrights directed the race for seven years and passed the torch to Mike Weyant and Stephanie Liles for 2009. A record 161 kids completed the kids triathlon this year!

Youth Triathlon Series for LIVESTRONG - 2009
The Youth Triathlon Series stop at Tallahassee on September 6 was a success. Based at the Morcom Center on the FSU campus over 100 youth and adults participated. Gulf Winds Triathlon Club members Stephanie Liles and Chuck Kemeny were co-race directors. Many club members also volunteered to make the event a success and to raise funds for the club.
